roll cage rattles off the a pillars, suggestions ?
So for months while working on the car i would occasionally hear a knock from elsewhere in the car and it always struck me as odd but never knew what it was. A few weeks ago while crawling into the car over the sidebars i slipped a bit and my hand came down hard on the top of the windshield, causing the noise again.
so i whacked the same spot a few more times and noticed the cage is right against the top of the A pillars, and any vibrations of the car (hammering, cutting w/ a sawzall, dropping something on the floorboards) cause the pillar and cage to bounce off each other. Im pretty sure they are going to cause an unending rattle of death when the car is finally driven, and everyone that ive shown the problem to has fully agreed with me. Other then rebuilding the cage, the options are: 1) gusset the cage to the unibody to eliminate 2) jam some rubber sheet in there 3) try to pound a big enough dent in the pillar so they never make contact The car is a 95 camaro w/ t tops, so im not sure if #1 is a good choice. #2 would be the easiest, #3 would probably be the hardest due to the multiple layers of sheet metal Thoughts ? |

Redo the cage so it clears the "A" piller

The shop that did the cage only sort of exists now adays .... and they cant be trusted to not borrow your brand new drag radials off the car for their own day at the track.
if i had to choose between having them fix the cage or just simply BEATING them with the cage, i would pick the latter. |

I would think of welding a gusset between the cage and the body myself and one on the other side as well so it looks like it is intended to be that way..
