Here's an article I wrote a few years ago that may help you with some of the details. Main thing is, if you aren't going to go quicker than 10 flat and aren't going to cut up the floor of the car (except for tubs), then you can use a Roll BAR instead of a Roll CAGE. A rollbar will need minimum 1 3/4" diameter tubing, as opposed to a rollcage which can be built with 1 5/8" tubing.
