Roller block With NON roller cam?

i have a 97 vortex engine. got it from work as a short block. no cam. bought a new crank, gm X rods an pistons. went to install my double roller timing gear an the chain is rubbing the block. should i buy the stock timing gear setand that will give me the clearance i need???
Crane Energizer Cam PN:100052 is the cam i have and bought to use.
anyone know

Go to northern auto parts, get the cloyes single roller Vortec timing chain. It`s made for Vortec blocks.

well i looked and its giving me the cam thats for that motor doesn't have the 3 bolt holes for your regular cam. going to our in town HP store and see what they say i'm doing wrong an can't do. :-S

I built a 383 using a late model block, had to grind it in that area to use the double roller chain.

You can`t go by the picture. I`ve built several Vortec engines so I know what they use.

This is from Jegs and the part number is the same as the one at Northern.

The 3157 is the more expensive model, the 1157 is the less expensive model and works just the same:
