I don't have vortec heads but have a Comp Cams retro fit hydrualic roller cam with 520, 540 on the lift. The lifters are speedpro vertical bar style. They require the use of a shorter pushrod then stock that measures 7.3 in. While the hydraulic roller lifters are heavy as hell my motor still loves to rev. I shift at 7000rpm. There is no maintence like running valve lash like there would be on a solid roller cam, but im sure a solid roller would make slightly more power. It did cost me alot to have this set up, $200 cam, $250 lifters, $180 custom length pushrods, but it is worth it just to tell people it is a hydraulic roller. If your car is primarily used for street duty get a hydraulic roller but if it is only for the strip get a solid roller.
