roller rocker dilema
 

Hi guys
Back again! Fitted my roller rockers today,wound the polylocks down a few turns with my fingers then a socket, the threads have cut the stud thread, took the "point" off a bit, not really impressed!
What would the worse possible thing happen,would I just lose the lift on the affected valves? I can order some more but have to wait 2 to 3 weeks!
Or would you use the original stamped rockers and new studs.

Perhaps Im worrying too much!

Maybe its me, but I dont understand the question. Are the studs too long? or wrong threads?

Basically the polycaps screwed onto the rocker studs ok for the first 3 or 4 turn then they started "cutting the threads up"
If the rockers became loose would I just loose the cam lift,similar to a pressed in stud pulling out.

Yes, but do they have allen screws to lock in place? Sounds like studs are worn from original rocker nuts.

They are all new mate! Thats whats annoying, and I didnt "cross thread" them. Yes they have allen screws to lock them!

why not run a die over the studs before doing harm to polly locks

I just ran into the same thing, with #$%@&*#@ poor quality machining on parts a customer brought in trying to save money on roller rockers!!! I reordered and had to wait! The dilemma you face is reordering and taking the chance on more bad machine work or taking the chance and running what you have! Being impatient is no reason to run substandard parts!!! Reorder and complain strongly to your supplier!! A valve train is no place to take short cuts or Micky Mouse around with "do you think I can" :confused:

Reorder the studs that the threads were cut and new locks & nuts that did the cutting!!! Sounds like the new Chinese, ETC quality hit you right in the kisser! Sorry it happened to you! But there has to be the 1 in a thousand !!! Murffy's LAW !!! This time it was you!

I get parts from the States to Spain in a week.
Or, can´t you get them from Real Steel ?

One has to be careful; rocker studs come in inch 3/8th's 24 thread and 7/16ths by 20 thread, also, in metric 10MM by 1.5 thread.

Some wrong there, either an inch/mm mismatch or as mud.man says poor quality machining (china?). You should be able to hold a stud in one hand and a poly-lock in the other and screw it on SNUG and EASILY by hand until it bottoms out. And I can get parts from USA to AUS in I week too. I see your in the UK, you sure it's not BSF or something weird?

Hi,the rockers and studs came from the states,like a few guys say ive probably ended up with chinese s**t, you just dont know what you are buying these days! Here in the UK like in the States used to make high quality products,we had the engineering background but now we are all going cheap!

Its not a inch/metric mismatch as 13 of them fitted perfect, unless the batches got mixed up at the factory,thanks again to everyone with your opinions at least Im not the only one coming across these problems!
