Roller rockers on BBC - any modifications?

I have a 402 that I am changing heads on, and thought maybe I would switch out the stock rockers while I'm at it. I'd like to do some full rollers -- my question is, is there anything special about the installation? Can I just bolt them right in like the stock rockers and go? Do I need special studs? etc...

I will be running a 396 375 HP cam (520 lift) solid lifter, heads are closed chamber 2.19/1.88 valves, ported.

Thanks

You may have to clearance the two rocker arms that come close the the valve cover bolt bosses. Because the rockers will rub on the valve covers. Even with tall valve covers.

There are sets that come pre clearanced but you can do it your self pretty easily as long as you keep the aluminum or steel dust out of the bearings.

Nothing special about the studs you will need but you may need some longer ones. Depending on what is in there right now. Don't buy the pro comp roller rockers they are more trouble than they are worth.

Thanks, sounds pretty easy -- so other than that I can just bolt in, set lash and go? Can I use the same (used) rocker studs?

Thanks !

Pretty much, you will want to use a pushrod length checker to make sure that your valvetrain geometry is still where it needs to be, but if everything looks good then you set the lash and warm up the engine then reset it and you are good.

Obviously you will need poly lock rocker nuts with that setup but a lot of companies will throw them into the box with the rocker arms.
