Ronnie Sox - R.I.P.
Ronnie Sox died yesterday (4/22). For you younger guys, Sox was a legend and the Sox and Martin cars were dominant in the super stock and early pro stock ranks. He will be missed http://www.nhra.com/apcm/templates/n...11805&zoneid=8

Dewey..We go out now and do not know a soul out there..Now that was the era when it was really up to the driver to lay down a good run and that is the way it should be..He will be missed..

Mr. Four Speed
Ronnie was a hero of mine. His passing saddens me, as did Dyno Don's. Being from NC, I often found S&M cars testing at Farmington Dragway (near Winston-Salem), Piedmont (near Greensboro) or Mooresville. I frequented all these tracks, as well as Shuffletown, and the red, white and blue cars could be seen at any of these tracks when there was no national event that weekend. My dad was a sales rep for Sealed Power/Speed Pro back then. Before gas ported pistons, Speed Pro developed the "Head Land Ring" piston, which was just reducing the head of the piston to the top ring land, to allow cylinder pressure to get behind the top ring. My dad took me to Burlington, where Sox and Martin's shop was located, to try to sell these pistons to them. I was in my teens then, and was awfully impressed with the shop. I never met Sox or Martin personally, but was always a fan. I remember the heyday of S&M, and in those days, if their transporter was at the track, the question was who would be second? I also saw Ronnie at Rockingham a while back, driving the car that "Bullet" Bob had built for him. The link cboy provided to NHRA.com gave a good history, but there was so much more. Ronnie was back in a Ford Comet during the early days of Pro/Mod, and it wore the red, white and blue for a while too. The Dodge Colt was an awesome car. The man has so much history. Truly a legend.
