Rough idle 383 stroker

Hi im working on an 87 olds cutlass with a 383 stroker in it.
It runns great at idle under no load but as soon as in gear it wont idle that great and u have to feather the gas.
The good part is as soon as u stand on it it screems.

Any ideas as to what i can do ??

sounds like a vaccum leak , check intake and all vaccum lines. also how big is the cam as your still in your Torque convertor could be to low.

What stahl are you running? What cam? Engines with high lift cams dont make any power until you come off idle.A stock stahl will kill the motor evey time you put it in gear.

I dont remember thestall on the converter but when u put it in gear it will jump, and then almost die out. In nutraul or park will idle at about 1 grand.

Thats the complaint. I bought the car this way but i replaced the 350 trans in it with a 700 r4. The trans has ben worked with a shift kit for racing but i have to change the gears in the rearend for highway.

i would start by finding out what was the still speed your Torque convertor had in the 350 trans , or info on the cam.

Drop the idle down to 700 and adjust the idle mixture screws to start with. Go from there.
