Well, kinda - it means that you won't get into the "power" band of the engine until 2000 RPM. Usually, these are for street/strip applications where you won't be cruising for very long, and only need power in the upper range when you stomp the throttle.

The idle is usually rough, or rougher and it makes the engine sound a long more "race car" style. Or, so I'm told....

68impala is right. you will have some power under 2000 but not much. the power really starts at 2000. this is really as far i would go for the street. but it all depends what you can put up with.

68 said it right. The part about "no power" doesn't mean that the car isn't going to move, it's just not going to pull hard until it gets there. That's why you get a matching torque converter that lets the motor spin up to a certain rpm before it starts to apply the power to the tranny. It's like letting the clutch slip to keep the rpms up. Just make sure you get a cam that matches the rest of your motor. The key to building a nice motor is to have all the parts work correctly with each other...

Power that starts around 2000 RPM is a pretty good thing, especially for the street. You will be running this most of the time on the street. Not the track, though. You will like higher-end power. But look for something that plateaus (sp?), so you can keep the power for a good range.

Ok, that's a good start. Do you know anything else about the internals of the motor? Like pistons (dome/flat), rods, heads, cam, intake, carb? Is it even running right now? Also, how do you want the motor to perform? Do you want a low end torquer , or a high end screamer? Also, is it daily driven or a weekend warrior?

I think the weight and the gear ratio may be a lil wrong, I think he wants a tire burner for friday night, prob a good set of 202 heads, a edelbrock performer, or maybe the edelbrock performer setup with cam and all.

vortec heads will raise your comp. and outflow the stockers. A cam similar to the crane powermax with .440lift I and .454lift E should be acceptable. Add an edelbrock air-gap dualplane intake and a Edel. thunder series 650cfm carb. A converter rated around 2700-3000. And you will need to think about better gearing (3.42--3.73)
