running new fuel lines?
 

What are you guys doing for fuel lines?I have to make up a complete new line . Can I run rubber fuel line all the way down the side of the frame,if it is well secured or does it have to be steel?What type of steel tube would you use?What id. would I need? Engine is a 350 gm. 300hp. with 600cfm carb. Thanks Jim.

I wouldn't go with rubber line all the way, but I know a friend
that did and he used fuel injection line. I did my project with steel
tubing and fastened it securely when the body was off, that made it
a bit easer.

Size of line for a V8 minimum for a 4BB 3/8", I say unless your
going Pro Street.

I always run hard lines for Fuel, brake and transmission fluids..... :)

Not hard to learn and is sort of FUN, once you learn it and have a few tools...

I used Russel aluminum hard line on my nova. I bought a 25ft coil of it off e bay for 25.00. It was super easy to bend. And much safer than all rubber hose.

If by chance you ever wanted to see what she'll turn in the 1/4 , the NHRA rules state that you can not have more than 12" of rubber hose total . !

Now I have a question, if you run steel lines down the frame how do you avoid not having more than 12" of rubber total counting from the tank to the fuel line and from the frame to the line to the carb. I'm old and don't think straight so please give me a minute and answer this. :confused:

3 inches.........line to the tank

2 inches .......line to the fuel pump

3 inches ......line to th carb

If you want rubber.....
Most racers use braided line with AN fittings .....I do when I can...

Personally I do not want any rubber line on the pressure side of the pump. If it's a mechanical pump it is hard line from the pump to the filter to the carb. Only rubber is from the fuel line to the pump intake, 6" at most.

OK listen and learn . Some cars come stock from the factory like this .
You need about 4" from the tank To the 3/8" hard line. The steel line can run all the way to a mechanicals pump , where it can go in solid or use 3 more inches of rubber .
From the pump to the carb you can go solid all the way , that leaves about 5" to play with HA HA ,
Or you can use 2&1/2" from the pump back to hard line and then from the hard line to the carb.
You'll get the idea

Most vehicles came from the factory this way.....hard line from the pump to the carb. I always plumb mine this way also.

Or use braided line with AN fittings.....to make re-jetting the carb easier...

Thats exactly what I used and will use on any of my other projects. It is soooo easy to bend and looks good and last a long time. I bought mine from my local performance place (Ramchargers) for around the same price.

You can use lengths of standard brake line also. Most stores carry it in five foot lengths, so a junction will be needed in the middle. Just cut one end off and slip the hose on. There's no pressure on the suction side unless you have a rear mounted electric pump. I'm running EFI with 39 psi on the lines, so I put a little silicone on the end and push the rubber hose about an inch up -- enough to get two clamps on. Never had a leak, though two clamps might be a little over kill. Better over kill than killed though... :sweat:
