A Russian company wants to bid on the US tanker contract.

If you thought the US Air Force tanker contract fiasco hasn't been interesting enough:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...atanker20.html

Kind of surprising that a Russian company thinks it could have a chance at building the airplane for the new tanker. To me it seems absurd. This is NOT a good idea and I hope the Air Force doesn't take the bait.

"The Il-96 meets every single one of the final RFP (request for proposal) requirements, and it comes in at a lower price (than Boeing), so if it's a fair competition, we win."

Since when does the Pentagon care about the price of something?

Latest info I've seen from Aviation Week says the European Air Bus firm has a better shot at the contract than the Ruskies. I hope Boeing gets the nod.

I think Boeing should get it too. If the Russians end up selling aircraft to the US then where do we go from there? Missiles from China? These are the very countries the military is supposed to be guarding us from. Surely the Pentagon hasn't forgot about the 40+ years of the Cold War. Have they?

To be fair though, I do think the Airbus/Northrup Grumman partnership won the original competition fair and square.

We might as well buy it from the low bidder to save money. We are going to be destroyed from within, not by Russia or China or anyone else.

"....we are going to be destroyed from within.". We are being destroyed from within is more like it. It is rapidly approaching the time to "...support and defend our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and Domestic."!! I will not fire the first shot, but will be ready when that happens.

The US spends ten times more than the Russians do for military spending, our military budget is half of Russia's GDP, they have a whole lot of catching up to do before they are a threat, I would not worry.

Where's the line? IMO, it was crossed about a year ago and certainly was crossed when the health care bill was passed. Don't get me wrong, I feel we need to reform our health care but not in this manner. Read up on Cap and Trade and see what that'll do for ya (to ya is more like it). So, tell me when the line is crossed IYO. I'm ready to fire the the second shot because I believe the first shot has already been fired. Also, please tell me what "57 states" is all about...IYO. I already know what it is and it was no mistake that Obama said it...IMO

You mean this? Jesus dude, the guy made a one digit error and you're ready to declare war? Did you forget all the stupid things Bush said as president?

So you don't support the health care bill? That means you think its ok to go and start killing people?

By the way, what you people are talking about is treason, and there's nothing patriotic about it.

What does that have to do with anything? That doesn't mean the government should start buying military aircraft from them. Regardless of how much the US spends on its military or the size of Russias GDP, they were the the biggest threat to the US for more than 40 years. They do not need to supply aircraft to our military.

It's a figure of speech man. My shot will be at the voting booth. Obama didn't make no mistake when he said 57 states. He's too smart to make a mistake like that. We're the ones that are the dummies making mistakes. Google 57 states and see what comes up. Btw, I didn't much care for Bush either and I'm sick of politicians in general. They all need to get a good swift kick in the butt for the crap they do. Just in case you haven't noticed, they are not in there for us.
