rust above headliner

I pulled the vinyl/jute headliner ( stuck directly to underside) of the roof on my old truck, I had condensation drips from where it had become loose in 2 spots through the years. I'm scraping it clean now and want to seal and get rid of surface rust in a couple of spots. I was wanting to know if something like the lizard skin would promote the rust issue or what to use first. I was then thinking of more of a new style headliner suspended not directly attached to the roof underside. Any suggestions as to the rust sealing and the lizard skin type products, It's pretty hot in the summer here.(Az.)

What we do is use epoxy primer to seal the metal prior to going on with other products or interior work..then the lizard skin or what ever else that you like is applied over that..

Use a product like Extend Rust Treatment from Loctite or POR-15 (there are all kinds of these types of products available) which bonds with the rust to seal it and prime it. Extend comes in an aerosol can.

Many products, but I used one called Rust Bullet. One part coating and I did my complete inside with it.
