If it doesn't work and you are not going to repair it to working condition, why mess with it at all??, just leave it alone. It's just a question, before you open a can of worms.

If it has locking hubs then just be sure they are un-locked, thats all you can do really. If it's the later full time or semi auto type then you dont need to do anything.

You sure you don't care about 4wd working? I would think it would be good to have living in Michigan, especially during the winter months.

Trade it for a 2 wheel drive one..........If you think you can just take a few parts off and it will be the same as a 2 wheeler, you are mistaken.........They are completely different.

BTW.......there are really just 2 things likely wrong with the 4 wheel drive........a vacuum leak or a bad actuator.

Not to sound critical, but since you are going through all that trouble, might be better to start with a frame that is set up for what you want.....like a 2 wheel drive s10 frame...........will save money and effort in the long run.....

Just because you have something on hand, doesn't mean its the right thing to use.....just my opinion.

If you decide to use the 4x frame and scrap the front parts, you will have to leave the outer axle stubs in place. They are needed to set the pre-load on the front wheel bearings.

That is correct, and doable, but I'd still recommend finding a 2wd frame to begin with, especially if you plan on V8ing it, 2wds have a much wider selection of quality headers available, not to mention being able to do drop spindles and/or brake upgrades that would/will be difficult at best with a 4x4 chassis and running gear, along with the odd wheel offsets that a 4x4 chassis requires.
