Thanks Airworld..(don't know you real name :-).
Question. What would cause the 3-4 pack to burn up so quickly if it was in fact recently rebuilt? This guy drives so conservatively its pathetic. If he has it re-done again, is there something that can be done to help it last? and for Tony,,,, Any recommendations on a good shop in central phoenix? Maybe close to 24st and Indian School area? (I don't think i'm quite up to the task of doing someone else's tranny quite yet! LOL) Mark Last edited by Jmark; 05-17-2006 at 05:48 PM. |

3-4 clutches have been a problem since day one on these trannys.
Why did it burn up so quickly after a rebuild? The re-builder replaced parts and did not adress the problem/cause . Shop recomendation? I cannot help there. sorry

Thanks Tony. He's going to contact the seller and see who did the trans last. Maybe he'll get lucky! LOL Really a shame to have it take a dump so soon after being re-done. Such is life I guess.
Maybe I'll call Transtar and see who they may recommend. Mark |

soap box, check
some times the builder doesnt get the credit he is do, building the transmission is not the whole job, case in point my own shop truck my fathers 96 chevy 5.7 4l60e I built the tranny at 75000 miles almost 6 years ago after he passed away. about 8 months ago it started shifting soft and slipping when it shifted but I ignored it, well last week no 3rd no 4th. well after another rebuild done by yours truly slip shifting, after kicking myself wondering what didnt I do replacing line pressure componets, well to make the point it wasnt the tranny but the computer causing low line pressure and that caused transmission failure but if you cant control the quality of your work parts dont matter how does the unit work after the rebuild that what matters some shops work just to get the job out the door and getting the money ,some want to get it done right Last edited by airworld2; 05-17-2006 at 09:33 PM. |

I guess that's the problem we are facing in finding a good shop that will cover all the bases and do the job so it lasts a little longer this time.
Does the 60e have a TV cable? or is it all by computer and throttle position? Wish I knew more so I could be more help. sigh. |

Two last questions before I call my friend back.
1. He recently told me that when he checked the fluid, it was about 3" ABOVE the full mark, running in park. Could this cause the above problem? 2. Is there a way to check the computer to see if its sending the correct info to the trans for pressures? I hate to see him sink a ton into it only to have the same thing happen 4 months down the road. Thanks Mark ************************************************ Just talked to my friend and told him the probably bad news and guestamated a cost of atleast $1500. He's leaving for a month vacation back east soon and is going to park it for now, too much money. He just went through forced retirement from Motorola and then was denied dissability for 2 years on conjestive heart failure. Trying to figure a way to sneek over while he's gone and pull the tranny and give it a shot! Last edited by Jmark; 05-18-2006 at 05:34 PM. |

Well, I had the opportunity to drive my friends truck today. He had called and thought maybe it wasn't messed up but since this is his first automatic, he wasn't sure on the shifting????????????????????????
Anyways, it does wind up more than normal between shifts but does have all 4 gears and L/U. Probably because its a 4 banger and needs to stay up in the power band more,,,,, I dunno,,,,, but it does work ok. Mark |
