S10 Automatic 4x4 to Manual 2 Wheel Drive Conversion

The transmission in my S10 (700r4) recently failed, and i decided to keep the truck and swap in a v8 i built, currently the truck is 4 wheel drive, i have removed all the drive train, and i plan to swap in my v8 with a saganaw 4 speed and just leave it 2 wheel drive, but the clutch is what i have questions about now, more questions to come i am sure.

What is the best way to set up the clutch? which is my better option? hydraulic or mechanical clutch? and how would i go about setting it up?

Go easy on me, this is my first ever project like this! haha

First thing is to get on to the pick-a-part and get the column bracket with the clutch pedal and the linkage from a S-10/blazer and use that..I have not been into one of those so not sure if they are mechanical or hyd..

Pretty sure the clutch is hydraulic on the s10s......

My concenr is what you are going to use for front suspension etc after you rip out the 4 wheel drive stuff....Plus, a 4x4 s10 is whole different frame than a 2 wheel drive with a lot less room for a v8.....I would be trading this 4x4 one for a 2 wheel drive one.....a lot less hassle.

I believe if I go hydraulic I will need a different bellhousing, but hydraulic is the way I wanted to go, as for the front end I was just gonna leave the drive shaft out and leave the front differential in

If I remember right..putting a V8 into a 4X4, you have to cut up and reweld the oil pan to make room for the Diff..

You might want to look at what it take/needed to be welded. To make a 2WD front suspension work on the 4X4 frame.

Both the 2WD and 4WD frames are the same..Just what is welded onto them is different..

A donor S10/Blazer will be a big help for this conversion.. and better a S10/Blazer with manual gearbox setup...

Would it be ok to leave the front differential and suspension alone and just not hooking it up?

I am also aware of the oil pan clearance problem and i will be purchasing an aftermarket pan designed for this swap, or making one by combining the 4.3l v6 pan and the small block pan

will an s10 manual transmission bellhousing designed for a hydraulic clutch bolt up to my 4 speed? thats what i was planning on doing if it will work

A few years ago I helped out a guy with his AWD Astro van.. His front diff cracked and would lockup the front wheels, So I pulled the front C/V axles and popped off and gutted the outer joints, and put them back in the front spindles to keep the front bearings together. He drove that van for over a year before he got it towed and lost it for driving without insurance.

After all you are talking about going through, it would be a lot easier and better to just trade this thing for a 2 wheel drive s10......Just because you have something on hand doesnt mean its the right thing to do.
