S10 rear end id help
Hey All good to be back posting on the best website for those who dont mind grease under the fingernals, lol.
I am helping out my bud who has a 1998 4wd S10 and is not sure what the rear is, obviously its a corporate 10 bolt, but is there a way of determining ring gear size without taking off the cover? I know that its lazy of me but thought i would ask first, thanks gang!

Check it for fangs. If it has fangs, it's a 7.5". For pics that explain, go to http://www.oldsmobility.com/10bolt-tech.htm

Put the rearend on jackstands. You can put a chalk mark on the driveshaft & tire. Have a friend turn the driveshaft 1 revolution and count the tire revolutions. Example - 3.5 Revs = 3.55:1 Ratio, 3.75 Revs = 3.73:1 Ratio etc...
