Sad news for HotRodders
Ernie Hashim died last night. Was in his 70s and not in good health in recent years.
Younger board members won't know about Ernie but he is a legend in drag racing. In the 50s he was a real player in top eliminator drag racing. First to go 180mph. First to adapt the, then new, Chrysler hemi to drag racing. One of the first to tame the '71 series Roots type GMC diesel supercharger to the automotive engine. Big player in the legendary rebel Smoker's Fuel and Gas Championship years during the early 60s NHRA nitro ban. Recent inductee into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame. Was Grand Marshal of the California Hot Rod Reunion a couple of years ago. Most of all, he was one of the nicest people I ever met. I'm honored to have had Ernie machine my hemi many years ago.
