SADA or Iwatta Copies?

I'm looking for a new gun and have searched the board. Lots of opinions on guns, quality, finish and such. It seems that the Sada and Iwatta guns are the pick of the Pros. I have used a Sharpe SGF98 Non-HVLP for a while and want to purchase an HVLP. I will spray no more than a couple of projects a year so I will not be using the gun for my daily living(mechanic by trade). I have looked at a lot of the guns on sraygundepot.com. I also have looked at Astro guns website. Am I better off buying a $400.00 gun or can anyone recommend a copy that will perform and not be a piece of crap? Thanks, dwhitt

If the price is the same ...definitely the SATA.My 5 year old SATAs, that I use five days a week still spray like new. I have demoed the Iwatas and they did spray nice, but so do most new guns. How it sprays after a few months of heavy use and being dropped a couple times I don't know. It sure doesn't feel as solid though. Like most things you get what you pay for, If you only paint a few times a year both of these guns is overkill. You might try going to your local paint store and see if the rep knows any painters with an old gun he'd like to unload cheap. An old SATA NR95 would be a great find for garage work and is
built like a brick,To rebuild it you replace the fluid needle, nozzle and air cap, no bushings, springs, packings or gaskets. An old rebuilt SATA is still better than most of the cheaper new guns you'll find.

I hate to sound like an advertisement but I gotta tell you I am really
impressed with the Astro guns. I have the hvlp, which I think is a
Sata copy, and it couldn't be better, I really think for the money you
should look at them. I have also used their Binks 7 copy, it's an
AS7 something, and it sprays as nice as my Binks. There are a lot of
copies out there but I haven't found any of them to have the fit & finish
of the Astro. It's definitly the best copy gun I've seen.
I would love to use a Sata just to see if there is a difference.
But then again, the gun you get use to is the one that sprays the best.

Thanks for the info. I think I will try one of the Astros. Never used a Sata or Iwatta, just see a lot of the Pros use them. May even go that route. When you think of all the time and $$$ to prepare, a few more hundred on a gun is not so crazy. All I have to do is convince the better half!! dwhitt

If you know exactly what you want, watch Ebay. A lot of guns
show up there. I got my Binks 7 brand new there for less than half the price.
