Here's a link to the service manual for the Pfaff 1245. This manual tells how to re-engage the safety clutch. CLICK HERE You need to click on the language for the manual and it will download to your computer. This re-engages different than my Consew 226R. My machine has a button to push in the bed plate while you turn the handwheel backward.

Great, now no thread pick-up

Thanks Dan for this prompt reply. I have gotten the timing back, somehow, but now the needle thread will not travel around the bobbin for pick up. Please tell how to get that going again! I have spent hours last night and most of today. I have disassembled the bobbin a couple of times and carefully reassembled it. Don't know.

The needle thread is picked up by the hook when it passes the scarf (indentation) in the needle. Change to a new needle and make sure you have the scarf of the needle pointed to the right, and the groove in the needle pointing left. If the hook is not passing by the needle right at the scarf and picking up the top thread, the timing is off, and you'll need to take the machine head to an industrial sewing machine repair shop and have them get it back in time.
