As long as you don't shock it too much, it might last you a while. Some Saginaws can handle more torque than others. One with a higher-ratio first gear will not handle as much as one with a lower ratio. See if your input shaft has any shallow annular grooves cut around the splined portion. If so, count them and look at http://www.dandltransmission.com/saginaw.html to find what your ratio is.

saginaw is a weak gear box, not ment for performance application's, Migh last for a few 7000 rpm shift, but it will let go, just a mater of time. Look for a muncie thats the transmission G.M used in its high performance cars.
