I found the stock WC T5's to be actually weaker than the NWC unless the HD support plate for the WC's tapered bearings was in place. Lower ratio boxes usually stripped the teeth on the input shaft or 3rd gear, V8 boxes usually failed at 3rd gear.

Did not include aftermarket gearsets though.

The 3.11 and 3.50 first gear Sags were originally used in the Monza and Vega cars. As such, they are lighter weight internally; the gears are actually narrower. Keep up the hunt for a different 4-speed, a Muncie or B/W, and sell the Saginaw before your turn it into a pile of broken parts, and it's no longer sellable. Butch/junior stocker.
