Saginaw Shifter Handle removal?

Went to put a fresh clutch in my 1980 El Camino with the stock saginaw trans (4 speed). Cannot figure out how to remove the shifter handle so I can slide the trans back out of the bellhousing. Never had a ride with a saginaw, always muncies or BWs, and ALL of those I've owned had Hurst Comp+ shifters that the handle just unbolts from.

Should be just about like the muncie trans IMHO Just unhook the linkage from the trans and then un-bolt the mechanism from the tail-shaft. should be just fine. JMO
