Sandblast cabinet lighting
My light fixtures are toast in the used sandblasting cabinet I got.
What kind of lights are guys using in their cabinets?
Outdoor flood lamps?
Well, I went ahead and made up a new light box. I'll be using ten 50PAR20's, mini flood halogens. Pics show 50 watt regular type bulbs which will be swapped out today for the proper bulbs.
I'm punching out rubber gaskets to put over the bulbs just below the threads to try to keep the sand out of the sockets. A s/s sleeve will press the rubber up tight to the socket hopefully locking everything out.
I'd be a bit worried about that generating too much heat in a closed space using halogen bulbs.
Mine died too and I always felt that the stock florescent fixture sucked anyway, so I ended up throwing what I had sitting around at it. I had an old bathroom over the sink light, one of those flat on the wall with multiple bulbs things that I just replaced sitting around, took all the trim off of it, cut off a 4 socket piece with the bandsaw. The sockets were held to the steel backing plate with steel tabs that were easily bent to fold the sockets so the bulbs would fit flat against the backing plate, which got screwed to the top of the original light housing and wired into the original switch.
If I remember correctly, I have either 60W equivalent (12W) bulbs in there or a mixture of those and 100W equivalent CFL's in the sockets and it's _really_ bright. I like this setup
I used it on Saturday and it's pretty warm alright.
Not gonna catch fire warm, but help keep the sand dry, warm.
It's really bright though. Can't have too much light.
