He shouldn't sand blast it but walnut or soda blasting is fine. On hoods and decklids I'd rather do it myself manually with sand paper and a mudhog/ buffer/ aggresive da. Blasting body panels is a skill that not all blasters have. When you get your car blasted you have to be willing to pay more for a reputable blaster who specializes in hot rods. Take it joe shmoe's and you might get a bunch of warpage.

On sheetmetal I'd never use any type of blasting unless its on the inside of the car and its just a shell...I like chem stripper for all my sheetmetal....but for frames and other thick metal, blasting is the way to go.I always end up buying sand ,I know theres better stuff but when I need it,I really need it now and sand is pretty cheap compared to the others and I dont have a dedicated booth for blasting so it all ends up on the ground....Mabee a temporary, walk- in blast cabinette made from waffer board for sub frames and such would be a good idea...
