Hey guys I was out in the garage t-day cleaning my paint guns and taking them apart when I dident like this paint that was on the paint gun. So I put it in my sandblasting cabnet and started blasting it with 80 grit glass beads. I was suprized it dident do anything. I dont think the gun had a powdercoat paint on it. It is more of a gummy type of paint. I was woundering what would be a good blasting media for taking off this stuff real fast without scratching up the metal alot? Also I am gonna be sandblasting my brothers wheelz and repowdercoating them. What is a good media for taking off powdercoating. THanks, Chris

Glass bead is not good for paint removal. It bounces off the soft paint, then etches the surrounding area, this makes the next paint even harder to get off the gun, you need the polished finish on the gun, use wash lacquer thinner, you will get better results. As for removing powder coat you will need a sharp abrasive and be careful on the base metal as you will abrade it. Powdercoat is usually pretty tuff.

hey chris try a product called black beauty i believe it is made from coal you can get it in different grits and beleive me it will cut whatever you can dish out .. i recomend using a wire brush afterwards to get the material out of the metal .this will give you a nice smooth clean surface to work with. good luck

See if you could hook up with somebody that has a gun cleaning cabinet. Thats the best way. I wouldnt glass bead anything with machine surfaces, it tends to ruin them. Plus it seems you can never get all the media out of something like that.

oh yea chris you dont ever want to blast a paint gun . just like igosplut said try and find a gun cleaning cabinet.. but i would use the black beauty on wheels or other things you want clean..
