Anything new with this? I'm working on doing some sanding work on a factory clear job myself. Hate morons that think they can use the hood of my car to set their groceries on while they unlock their freakin car....

I,m back sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was grinding a weld with a 4 1/2 inch grinder and found out why it is called a hand grinder. Being stupid I got my finger stuck between the grinding wheel and guard. Lost skin, nail, and bone to first knuckle. Now I have to what till graft takes. talked to a friend he said that he would place 2k primer or what ever primer you are using on the spot. Make sure it is good and dry an then base coat it ( give it long flash time ) then thin coat of clear flash, coat again. On a factory paint that is cured touch up is easier. Just sand with 800-1200 grit let it dry good, and clear. (Something to think about) A friend had to fix a dent in his hood and did not want to spend the money on clear coat. After base he went to Advance auto and bought two spray cans of clear. It has been at least a year and you can not tell that it has been redone.

oldtimer, i'm so sorry about your finger! that's terrible. thanks so much for typing with the working fingers in order to get back to me. i still have not fixed the deck lid. it has been on the back burner due to another paint project. i figured i would just redo the entire lid though. sand it at 220, prime and paint. maybe i'll try what your friend said. we'll see. that will happen in the next day or two.

that's interesting about your friend and the rattle can clear. you can buy cheap clear out there. acme is like $55 a gallon. i guess maybe your friend isn't set up to use a gun. that's great that it looks like factory though! let's see how long it lasts...

If it was me I also would of painted the whole lid over again. That is really the right way. You may be surprised when you get it all done, and it shines like a piece if glass. You will be so proud that your hat will not fit.

otcn, wow, hope you get healed up quickly! Years ago I was sitting on a large pipe while grinding and it got away from me and touched the inside of my leg but luckily, it was fairly minor. Still hurt like crazy tho. Be careful....
