sanding substrate

I am painting my bike with HOK paint. My question is about sanding the substrate. Once I have layed down the base coat do I need to sand before I put on the intercoat clear? The tech manual states not to sand but in the back for Kandy's it says to sand with 600-800p.

Once I put down the intercoat do I sand then apply Kandy?

Once Kandy is on do I put clear on right away (wehn it dries to touch) or let stand and sand then clear?

Thanks for the help.

Once you lay your base coat, you lay your intercoat right on top within the recoat window. You can lay the intercoat as soon as the base coat has flashed. After the intercoat, you may want to lay on 2 coats of clear and then sand the nibs flat. That is if you are using a metal flake in the intercoat. If not just apply your candy following HOK tech sheets.

DO NOT SAND YOUR BASECOAT! let it flash then you can start applying the Kandy, start with 3 medium wet coats at a 75% overlap pattern(gun turned way down to restrict fluid) then finish with 2 to 3 full wet coats at a 50% overlap. Keep gun 6" off surface. Kandy should be sticky not stringy when touched in the wettest spot before next coat is applied. When you have achieved the color you want let the Kandy get sticky and topcoat with 2 caots of urethane clear. Then you are done, no sanding required. This is straight from the HOK tech manual. My question is why are you using intercoat at all? if you are going from base coat to candy to clear top coats the intercoat is not necessary. Intercoat is used for graphics and tape outs.
I hope this helps you out, I have done these exact same steps and the results were great, if you dont have alot of painting experience you might not want to use a true candy(tranparent) paint. HOK makes candy concentrates that mix with intercoat that make life a little easier.
Food for thought.
