Sanding Waterborne Basecoat?

I did a search on this and read until my eyes crossed and didn't
find a definitive answer.

It seems that sanding a solvent type basecoat is not a good idea
because of delaminating problems; i.e. the sanding exposes waxes
or parafins that are in the basecoat, which compromises
the bonding to the clearcoat.

What about sanding a waterborne basecoat, specifically AutoAir Colors?
I realize metallics and pearls can't be sanded, but what about a solid
Jet Black?

Thanks,
ROE
