Sata 3000 RP Digital

Hello, I recently purchased a used 3000 RP with a 1.4 for a steal of a price, the only downfall was they put it in the gun washer with the battery lid off. I contacted satausa and they will fix it for $156 plus shipping. My question is has anybody used a manual micrometer on a digital gun? I cant think of any reason why it wouldnt work until I can send it in for the repair. The gun is excellent condition other than the display issue. Also will I notice a night and day difference switching to a 1.3 setup? I know ppg, sherwin and etc all suggest it in there gun setup charts and others swear by a 1.3. So any help or opinions would be great! Thanks.

Why would you want to switch to 1.3? What material you want to spray with it?

I spray mainly sherwin base either ultra 7000 or dimension. Then HS clears, I have sprayed them with a 1.4 on an hvlp CA tech gun but not with the RP. I know sherwin recommends a 1.3 for their bases and clears except hpc 15/21 which they recommend a 1.4 for. I will try it first and see if it fits my style and if not switch to a 1.3.

A 1.4 can always be choked down with the needle adjustment, while a 1.3 will probably be run near wide open all the time.

I like 1.4s because you can open them up and cover a big area in good time if you have to.

Thats kind of what I was thinking then I wouldn't be limited in terms of material for the occasional single stages and thicker high solids clears. Thanks for the input. Another thing I'm curious is how much material do these RPs use I have heard lots more material than other guns, but also that the film thickness is thicker than most. So technically you can move faster keeping the film thickness a little thinner but still covering well and use the same material as any other gun right? Thanks again guys
