Satin Finish Paint --- Wax or Not ??

I am getting my truck painted satin finish and was told not to wax or it will bring out the gloss and would be uneven?? I understand the not waxing part but how would i put a protective coating on satin? Do they make a satin wax?? Waxing not only creates a shine but also adds a protective shield against the elements!

I know Harley Davidson is painting some bikes with a satin finish and it says very clearly NOT TO WAX!!

any help from the BODYSHOP men

THANKS
Bg

Sorry to say, it is my understanding that, no, you can't wax satin paint.
Maybe we need to invent some semi-gloss wax?!? hmmm.... ... seems to be a small market...

satin finish protector

Hey BG , I used to do body work for about 30 years, and if I remember correctly , back when Mustangs used matte black on their hoods , an OLD detailer in the dealership I worked at, used to use lemon Pledge FURNITURE POLISH on those hoods . Now ,I wouldn't use this without first TRYING it on something you don't care about, or someplace inconspicuous , but I seem to recall him spraying it on a shop rag, & then wiping it on the hood .Anyone else ever hear about doing this ??? Just trying to help out ,no guarantees .
Later , Rick

When I was 18, many years ago, I used to pledge my black truck I had.. It really kept the dust from settling on it.. I had a gravel road right by my house and it was the only thing that would keep it from looking like a turd the next day after it had been washed..

Have you considered using a spray wax right out of the bottle.. One without any polish in it.. as pledge does have polish in it too.. System One makes one, I have yet to use it, but I am sure it is of good quality..

You can look here

Just a thought

I think it looks great too!! That paint looks like it came out of a computer generated image. What lighting was used for that pic? What color is it. Give us some particulars.

Just so you know, that furniture spray wax really works. Back in the day (I'm 54) we used it for all the factory black out panels and stripes. If you don't like Lemon, there's an unscented version available. Nice soft shine and no white residue.

Thanks tfeverfred !

That color was a very hard decision to make I didnt want just any "normal" glossly paint job. So i started looking into the satin finishes and went with that ................. Aot of people told me not to do that including the bodyshop person.

But after it was painted they all said different!
