Saturn Aura brake light stays on

Hi guys,
my friend has an issue with her 2007 Saturn Aura.
The brake lights stay on when the paddle is not pressed.
I changed the brake light switch last night but that was not the problem. The light turns of now if you ur not on the paddle but after about 3 seconds it comes back on by itself. The cruise control is not working as well what akes sense since it believes the brakes are applied.
Any ideas what else it could be?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tomi

make sure when they come back on the pedal didn't creep back down enough to turn the lights on. If you unplug the switch do they stay on, if so then you know its not the switch.
The brake lights go through the turn signal switch, it could be the culprit as well

I am having the same issue. It started a year ago, they replaced the brake switch. It still did it. I took it back and they said there was some kind of lubricant they forgot to apply, that had to do with conductivity. It worked for about one year, now it's doing it again, intermittently. My boyfriend took it in for me and they said if it's intermittent, they can't tell what's going on unless it's doing it at the time the car is being serviced. I don't know why they can't just check the lubricant, unless they didn't check their records to see what fixed it the last time. It's obviously not uncommon. I guess I just have to take it back in and insist they check the lubricant? Let me know if you have any luck!

Thanks T, i have to do some more testing and see what the heck it is. I didnt see the car again yet to do so.
I heard about the corroded connection to the control module as well. There are a couple different pages that suggest using contact grease and that would help.
Thanks for all the ideas, I will keep u posted what I find out.

'07 Saturn Ion Brake light stays on until pedal pulled out.

When I pulled the brake pedal away from the firewall towards me as far as it would go, the brake lights turned off. AS soon as I let go of it the pedal moved toward the firewall slightly and the lights came back on. What is needed a pedal adjustment? How? Novice (not even a back yard or even a weekend mechanic). Thank you for your thoughts and your consideration.

When you pull up on the brake pedal do the lights go off? If so you probably need a switch adjustment.... you should be able to adjust the switch just a tad ...... I don't know that car very well but some brake switches are normally closed..... and the pedal in the up position keeps it in the open position..... as you step on the brake the plunger is released closing the circuit etc......
