Saved $1600 with a few Squirts of Oil
My daughter drives a 1990 Gran Prix out of the blue she called- me indicating that she took it in for a wheel alignment. The mechanic told her he could not do a front end alignment because the front struts bearings were sized-up due to rust, he added this is quite common for these GM cars due to the bearings been at the base of the springs. The cost of replacing the struts was more then the dam car is worth. I told her to let me look at it. I jacked-up one side did not need to remove the wheel. I pop-off the bottom of the boot and sure enough the bearing housing was a solid rust. I took a screw driver scraped as much of the rust as I could, then I took a can of the trusty WD40 and sprayed and sprayed, I then saturated the bearing area with oil. I replaced the boot and did the same on the other side. My daughter drove away and called me on her cell phone and said it seems to be a bit better. Oh well just wasted an hour. The next day my daughter called back and said I can't believe, Dad the car drives dead straight. Amazing a few drops of oil freed-up the frozen bears. Sure feels good when some fixes work-out and the price was wright.
