SBC 283 Heads

Here are the photos of the 283 heads and one photo of a 283 and a 350 combustion chamber for comparison. Again, any and all help and advice is greatly appreciated.

SBC Head differences

I made two posts last night within 2 minutes of each other - somehow they were separated by many other threads. The two posts together would have shown all the photos of the two pair of heads for better clarification.

My question refers to the differences in the 283 and 350 heads. The 350 heads (from what I've read in the "How to Rebuild Your Small Block Chevy" book by David Vizard) should have protruding spark plug holes and raised valve seats - mine have the protruding spark plug holes but not the raised valve seats. The head identification numbers indicate they should be 75/76cc chambers. Since these 350 heads don't have the raised valve seats, could they be 69cc heads instead of 75cc? And, if so, can I use them instead of the 283 heads? I realize this little 283 isn't going to be a screaming fire-breather, but it should have all the power I need for a 3,000 pound street rod.

Thanks muches

Wayne

Best way to find the chamber volume is to measure it, find a big syringe or something!

SBC Head Differences

Fiscus,
I took your suggestion and found that the 283 heads held right at 65cc's and that the 350 heads held right at 70cc's.
