There are enough differences that you need the correct set for your engine. Be sure its the correct app- use the VIN to determine if you have a Vortec or LT1- they are very different as to gaskets also- just as different as a, say, 1973 350 cid SBC is from a 1996 Vortec 5.7L SBC.

Don't believe everything you hear- even about shocks being "one size fits many". There are differences, some subtle, others not so subtle- else the companies that manufacturers them (IIRC, there were two main co.'s- Gabriel and Monroe) would not go to the expense of having so many part numbers. They gain no advantage by having so many p/n's, just the opposite, actually. It's a necessity.
