SBC 350 heads identification
Anyone seen this casting number on heads. I can't find it on the internet anywhere. 3998981. The date code is A174. and there is a GM64 on the heads to. Anyone know?

The number closest to that I can find is 3998991, maybe that 8 is really a nine. Your heads were made Jan-17-1974. The number head that I mentioned has 1.71" IN and 1.50" EX valves. They were made between '68-'76.

Sometimes unless you clean off the numbers really good with some sand paper they appear different.. 3's can look like an 8 or 9. 9's look like 3's and so on. I have had the same problem as you several times.. not a single place online shows my casting numbers and it ends up I misread the numbers. Good luck

Yep you are right. I looked again and sure enough it was 3998991. Thanks. Guess these heads aren't too good huh?
