SBC 377 vs SBC 383
Hey guys so I was reading an artical in one of my perfomance mags and it got me thinking and i know asking you guys would be the best thing to do.
So my question is Take a 2 motors same heads c/r cam and all of that stuff but have one a 383 350 block 400 crank. and make one a 400 block with a 350 crank. What motor is going to produce more power and whats the difference between the 2 builds going to be? Thanks for reading i'm really excited to read what you guys have to say. |

383 or 377 will not have a significant difference.
use the 400 block with the 400 crank to make max power. |

Build the 350 or 400, it's easier, but that's not your question.
All else being equal the long stroke 383 will make more torque, better fuel mileage and cleaner emissions thanks to mechanical advantage and longer burn-time per cycle. |

Built for the SAME purpose, using parts matched to each bore/stroke combination, to run in the SAME rpm window or SAME race class.....there won't be 6-10hp difference between the two.

Thanks guys for your input. I'm just finishing by 355 build so i'm not looking into another motor yet. But i love to have one on a motor stand to be able to go out and toy with from time to time and not have to be in a hurry to get it running. I was thinking about the 377 just for a few simple reasons. As gasman41 said i thought it would be a very snappy set up. There are not as many out there as 383. And i would have a 400 block that one day i could take apart if wanted and make a big motor 415 or somthing. Thanks for your help guys. Keep it coming. I like to read and learn about different setups as i'm only into car and truck motor build for about a year.
