SBC 383 re-build
I will be re-building my engine this fall and I am looking for some help. The engine is a 350/383 SBC out of a 1975 vette and has Edelbrock RPM heads, Edelbrock Pro Flo EFI fuel injection, long tube headers and a 400 crank with 350 rods (maybe I should change for longer rods?) I also run a 700R transmission. This is my last rebuild as I plan to retire soon and that will affect available funds somewhat!! It is also with this in mind I plan to replace the camshaft with maybe a midrange cam that will give me good street drivability and “reasonable” fuel usage while cruising on the highway (as I plan on doing a lot of traveling) yet still have some “pep” on acceleration. I am not a top-end high speed guy. I know that I am asking a lot but there must be someone with a good knowledge of the black art of camshaft information? My initial thought was to use an Edelbrock 2103?
I would call the tech line at the camshaft companies (Comp, Crane, Edelbrock). There are alot of variables to consider. Also, my personal opinion - the 5.7 350 rods would be fine for a street / strip motor.
Congrats on retirement
