sbc 400 head gasket help
Ok, I have figured out with the help of you what to do about thickness and squish concerns. Now I am struggling with understanding coolant passages. Not steam holes, Im good on those. Apparently, Fel Pro 1014 has an additional large 7/16 hole between middle cylinders on the exhaust side. In addtion, they seem to have some sort of restriction with the holes on the intake side to help flow on the exhaust side. The victor reinz 1178 SCR is punched out like most other standard 400 head gaskets. Victors gasket is a little thicker then the fel pro 1014, but does not have the coolant passage configuration like the 1014.
Heres the question. With this car being a driver for the most part. Is the 1014 the way to go, or am I over thinking this and can use victor reinz or even Mr. Gasket performance 400 head gaskets????? Thanks for your input. |

Go with the 1014. Some 400 blocks don't have the 7/16 hole. I drilled mine to match the gasket. It is very easy and anything to improve cooling on the 400 is a plus. Last edited by 406 bug; 03-06-2012 at 07:57 PM. |
