sbc 871 hitting distributor

I just sold my weiand 671 and bought a used littlefield 871. It appears to be an older unit, but everything looks to be nice and tight on it.

I just set it on my intake and its actually hitting my distributor. I thought a 871 was supposed to fit???

What options do I have?

you can have an aluminum plate made to move blower ahead, 871 has 15/16 longer rotors. then probably have to run a indexed spacer on crank pulley, plate should be 3/4 - 1 inch if you can't find anybody to do it, pm me and i no 2 guys here that can do it. why did you sell the 6?

why does my intake say it can fit a 671/871 blower?? Last thing I want to do now is add height and make the blower taller. If I knew it was going to be this much of a hassle I would have just kept the 671.

Is there anything else I can do? Is there an intake that gives more clearance? What a pain!!

MSD has an 8541 'crab cap' that might work: Crab cap

I would call MSD before ordering though :D

that should work , Got a friend who switched from a 6 to an 8 on a big block and he had to make a plate to move forward think his was a littlefield also , he is a machinist. you might call littlefield since they make there own blowers there could very well be a difference in manifolds. there was never a gmc 8 made , hotrodders used the 6 and v8-71 rotors with a 15/16 inch spacer. so each manufactures 8 mite be different as far as mounting to different manifolds?

i have to run that msd distributor since its a cam/crank signal for my fuel injection.

here is a pic

I think your leaning towards a plate being fabbed ,if it hits thers no other way unless pattern of a littlefield manifold moves blower forward.Just done a little research i'm reading were the weiand manifold sets the blower back further.whats your manifold? I think theres your problem.

What type of intake do you have? I think Weiand intakes are offset to the rear one inch or so.

NOlowrider 05-02-2011 11:33 AM

Just to add a note to my earlier post. If you swap out the intake for one that is not offset to the rear, it is going to make the blower snout too long. You will have to get a snout that is shorter to keep everything aligned. Give The Blower Shop a call, they are good people.

they do set them back around an inch , you can get a spacer to go in back of the crank pulley to get everything in line not a problem there. you don't need a different drive. If you have any problems finding what you need give me a hollar
