Get a low cost rebuild kit on ebaY (good ones list name-brand components), have a minimal head job done (no new valves or guides unless absolutely necessary), minimal block work (hone, bore only if necessary, surface deck only if necessary). For that power range on a budget get an Edelbrock Performer cam/manifold/carb combo.

This place has good Prices on SB Chevy 350 Rebuild kit's . And you can do up-grades on the Parts . Such as Bigger Camshafts Better Pistons and Rings H/V Oil Pump and more . But before you can order one of the kits . You need to know the under cut of the crank and over bore of what your block will be . Also it is always a good idea to have all the rods Rebuilt with ARP Bolts . www.northernautoparts.com/

......and on a further note, most machine shops want the pistons you're going to use BEFORE they final hone the block. So have them check the cylinder wall taper and tell you .030, .040 etc. Then you can order your parts, and yes, Northern Auto has some good deals. Good luck.
