SBC Crankshaft / Damper Sizes ?

Hi guys,we were having trouble with a 1979 SBC damper seal (timing cover)
We took measurements and came with this ones :

44.78 x 61,37 x 9.52 mm

What are the original sizes ?
Any info on the crankshaft area (where the damper goes) size ?
Somebody did some machine work on the damper we believe and the
seal is going on too tight bending the rubber lip and causing a leak

Thanks !

I beleive the make a collar for dampers that are worn and grooved to seal on the timing seal better.
Other wise get a new damper. For budget motor go to the yard and look for one were the rubber between the base and ring is not squeezing out the side or dry rotted, then pull it and make sure it isn't grooved at the seal line.

Unless they welded the surface to build it up then didn't machine it small enough it can't be too large.
This is a Speedi Sleeve to repair the surface of the Balancer when the seal has worn a groove.>> http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=257550 it has the Min. & Max specs.
Did you lube the seal with oil before intalling it?
