SBC Dip Stick Sleeve Removal

My "made in China" dip stick sleeve has broken off at the block with about 1/8" sticking out. It is refusing my attempts at removal. Any suggestions on an extraction method that do not include dropping the pan? That may be the last resort.

try to collapse the side of the tube to get some needle nose vise grips on it and twist it out.

Following up, I had a similar problem and tried the easy out, but it didn't work (I had used Permatex #1 to make sure the sleeve stayed in). I added a little heat (just until the permatex began to smoke a tiny bit) and the easy worked just fine then!

Thread a bolt into it, then tap upward under the bolt head with an open-end wrench that barely fits over the shaft. Or tap the wrench with a hammer or a piece of pipe.
