Wink SBC Distributor wiring????

I am trying to install a Mallory Distributor. #4748201 Breakerless ignition distributor with vacuum advance.
I have not started this engine up since the total rebuild.
I need to know which terminal on the Mallory distributor cap is the #1 terminal.
Can some one tell me which terminal is #1 in relation to the mounting tab on the distributor for the cap to seat properly. OR in relation to the vacuum advance mechanism??

HELP!! A.S.A.P.

If i'm not mistaken it doesn't matter. let me rephrase that. it depends on where you dropped in the distributer on the gear. to find out where it is just bring up #1 cylinder on the compresion stroke. see where the rotor is pointing to. and start your wire there. for #1. then follow the firing order for your engine from there. sending each wire to the coresponding firing cylinder. the order is on the manifold most likely.

Question

On a 350 Chevy with the engine at TDC and 0 degrees what direction should the rotor in the distributor be pointing??
Should it be pointing toward cylinder #4-#6?? on the engine block approximatly??

I THINK THERE IS A LITTLE RED ARROW ON THE FRONT OF THE MALLORY, THAT'S WHERE I STUCK MY #1. I LIKE IT IN FRONT ANYWAY SO I CAN HAVE MORE REFERENCE POINTS TO WHERE IT POINTS IN CASE I HAVE TO ADV. OR RET. A LITTLE AT A TIME. MANUALS I THINK HAVE #1 AT 1 O 'CLOCK. IF I KNEW WHERE I COULD PUT IT SO THAT ALL MY WIRES CAME OUT STRAIGHT INSTEAD OF CROSSING OVER EACH OTHER ON THE CAP I'D TELL YOU, BUT I HAVEN'T FIGURED THAT ONE OUT YET.

I always have mine pointing right at #1 cyl. I'm sure you know how to align the pump drive without having to use a screwdriver etc. If not let us know, and one of us will tell you how to put that rotor right where want it on the first stab (pump drive lined up and ready to go).
