Sbc Gen 1, to Gen II exhaust manifold swap?

My stock 5.7L LT1 (’96 caprice) exhaust manifolds are not even on both sides. The drivers side main exhaust port is positioned forward of the #7 cylinder, while the pass side exits more towards the rear of the manifold, creating some cab to firewall issues for My ’37 Studebaker project. Here’s my question: I don’t want to run headers, but is there any reason I can’t use old style GEN 1 stock exhaust manifolds on my LT1? The port on my cast iron heads is oval, and the stock LT1 manifold ports are “d” shaped on the bottom, that’s the only difference as far as I can tell. The project truck is being built with daily driving in mind. Can I use ole "rams horn" manifolds? Same bolt pattern etc? Thanks, Jimmy

Would swapping them side to side provide enough clearance?

Don't quite understand what you mean by swapping them side to side? Jimmy

I think he means using the left one on the right side, and vice-versa.

The early manifolds probably won't match up well to your D-port heads w/o some grinding. Get some Corvette LT1 manifolds, they're center exit and in fact are interchangeable from side to side. I've got a set if you're interested.
