SBC head casting symbol I.D.

There is a 76 corvette down the block from my house that is forsale. The guy that owns it knows nothing about the car or the motor other than its not the original one. I looked at the head casting mark and it was 3 vertical lines, I've never seen this one before. I looked on a few sites that had some really good info on casting symbols but no mention of the one I'm looking for. If any of you guys have seen this or know what its is please let me know. Thanks

I believe I've seen that symbol on a swirl port style, center bolt valve cover head. Is it perimeter or center bolt covers on it?

it looks like the center bolt style of valve cover but it doesnt have the center bolt. I just thought that someone had put that style of cover on. I have been asking this to a few friends and they think that it might have been an early gm crate motor, but nobody has seen that symbol. I'm starting to wonder if they are a cheap aftermarket set.

The aftermarket Iron heads available don't have a casting identifier on the ends at all, they are just machined flat and drilled for accessory mounting, so I would assume they are a factory head of some type. Sounds like mid 80's head markings to me, maybe just prior to Chevy going to centerbolt valvecovers. They don't ring a bell as any kind of desirable head, nothing hotrodders look for.

Ya I didn't think that it would be a much wanted set if nobody has seen them. I'm just trying to find out what the motor came out of. I wish it had the original 350 in it. Spec plate has it at 300hp and 390lb of torque at 9.5-1 compression. its probably in pieces now setting in some guys garage and he doesn't even know what he has

I knew I had a set of those in my stockpile of cores, so I just found it and looked at the casting number, 14079261 (oddly long), which means 84-88. Uses perimeter bolts, standard intake flange. The range of years doesn't tell you if it's a one piece seal block or two, or two or 4 bolt block, but I am pretty sure I took this thing apart and it was a one piece seal and 4 bolt block, so it came from a truck of that era.
I haven't touched the heads, but I would expect them to be on par with something like an 882 head and they are a lightweight casting. Not sure if they are crack prone like the 882's or not though.

Thanks toast, thats the best info that I've gotten so far. So basicly its a mid to late 80's truck motor in a vette. Outstanding, now I have an edge to grind him down on price

Don't go thinking the original was anything special, it was practically the lowest HP 350 Vette engine ever made, NOT 300 hp, likely 240-250 at best, this was at the beginning of the catalytic converter era of smog choked engines. Nothing special, exact same engine as was in a '76 3/4 ton truck except for minor differences like cam spec's and screw in rocker studs.

Only special value to it would be to the guy who has the Vette that it goes in by the #'s
