My references do not list this head for a small block Chevy. It's possible that you/or seller is misreading the casting number. There is a 3986336X head listed so if the second digit is being read as an 8 vice 9 and you/seller is ovelooking the X, then it is a 350 head with 76 cc combustion chamber. Pass them up if you are looking for performance heads. By the way, if you find this is a valid number, please let us know the details so we can update our data base.

I have a set of these same heads, and I couldnt find out anything on them either, all I can tell you is the are the thick casting and have better intake runners than the 882's the exhaust side, the 882's seem slightly more open though..mine dont have an x either..so Id be interested if anyone found out anything also..

3986336....71......350..........76cc chamber
This was found on mortec. I`ve only seen one set of these heads, they were bolted on a 1971 350 in a step side pickup. from what I could tell they were a heavy cast head and I had seen in a book later they were of the 1.94 1.50 valves, they may have been avalible with 1.71 valves according to the book, but it`s been so long i can`t recall.

3986336 heads...any info????

I have a set of heads (3986336) I am using for a school class. I can't seem to find much info on them either. I did find a guy in class that had a very old book with valve stem diameters, valve face angles, guide clearance and a couple of other specs. I can't find the guide diameter or seat width specs. I'll post what I have next time I'm on, probably Wednesday.

A guy I know had them in his barn and had bought them from a guy who told him they were corvette heads...I did see on a site where someone had a corvette with mismatched heads and one of them was a 3986336. These might have wrongly been on a 'vette at one time. I did find a close vette casting # of 3986316....

Anyhoo, finding any info beyond they are 350 heads from 1971 has been pretty futile....

These are ealy 70's 350 smog heads. use on trucks and also the 71-72 9:1 350 LT1/Z28 350-330horsepower motor. They are essentially the same as 441's 920's, 487's etc.

Once of the better casting of the era but nothing special today unless you are restoring a 1971/72 Z28.
Those 336's had screw in studs and guide plates and 2.02x 1.60" valves. (Rare)

You'll have to shave them down to 69 70cc (about .060") and use a thin shim gasket to get even close to a good cr with flat tops. may or may not have hardened exhaust seats.
