"K" Generally in the vin stamp, denotes a truck engine. Only that it was assembled to go into a truck, not that it is a specifically truck engine.

The 186 cylinder heads are Z28 style heads, used on 302s 327s, and depending on who you ask, LT1 350s. Closed chamber 202/160s with acessory bolt holes.

CTL 70 350 Corvette 300 ZQ-3 4-spd 4-Brl
CTL 72 350 Nova 165 L-65 TH 350 2-Brl
CTL 72 350 Chevelle 165 L-65 TH 350 2-Brl
CTL 72 350 Camaro 165 L-65 TH 350 2-Brl
CTL 75 400 Impala 175 LT-4 T-H 400 4-Brl
CTL 76 400 Impala 175 LT-4 T-H 400 4-Brl
CTL 78 305 Impala 145 LG-3 TH 350 2-Brl

The "K" in this case stands for:
K St. Catherines, Ontario

The 186 castings are "camel hump" heads by the 2 humps casted on the front and rear of the head. These came on mid level to high performance engines in the late 60's and early 70's.
On intermediate performance engines they came with 1.94 1.50 inch valves and 64cc chambers. On high performance engines they came with 2.02 1.60 inch valves with 64cc chambers. If the heads are factory to the block it's possible they came on the first engine in the suffix code above which is a 300 horsepower 350. If not then someone has simply purchased them and added them to the engine you have which is rather common.
If you want to know what engine you have exactly you'll need the casting number of the block which is on the drivers side bellhousing flange.

Next time, use this to decipher the codes.

The suffix CTL was used numerous times:

CTL 70 350 Corvette 300 ZQ-3 4-spd 4-Brl
CTL 72 350 Nova 165 L-65 TH 350 2-Brl
CTL 72 350 Chevelle 165 L-65 TH 350 2-Brl
CTL 72 350 Camaro 165 L-65 TH 350 2-Brl
CTL 75 400 Impala 175 LT-4 T-H 400 4-Brl
CTL 76 400 Impala 175 LT-4 T-H 400 4-Brl
CTL 78 305 Impala 145 LG-3 TH 350 2-Brl

The 2 in the second position of the partial VIN makes this a '72 engine, so from the list above you see the choices.

There is a cast in number (not stamped) back by the distributor that will be the casting number. Other side from it should be a date code. Look at link for details on the casting number and date code. Use them to verify what you see above.
