SBC Intake help

Newbie here. Seems all my Google searches lead me here so I joined up.

I recently just did my first engine build. Nothing major. Have an SBC 400 out of a 74 Caprice. Casting 330817, 2 bolt main, all stock. I just cleaned it up and put new gaskets in. I currently have the motor in my 87 K10 4x4 in front of a TH400. I'm currently into the offroading thing, but I'm feeling a change and want to get on the drag strip soon.

That being said, while I keep on my search for a car, I would like to have the 400 operating the best I can before I get a serious rebuild done with it. I have 2 intakes: one is a cast iron from an early 70's Vette and the other is an aluminum Weiand 8004. I'm wondering which is best for my setup? I daily drive it and will get on it sometimes.

Sorry for the long post for one question and thanks for the help in advance.

The Corvette intake is first, Weiand second.

Cheers!

The weight savings alone would justify the use of the Weiand as long as there wasn't alot of corrosion in the coolant ports/thermostat housing, and you don't need to install an EGR valve or a choke stove. IMO

I agree, probably won't be even a 4-5 hp difference between the two, with the advantage leaning to the Weiand...but the Weiand is a lot lighter.

Thanks for the input. Definitely a bonus on the weight. The Weiand is in really good shape.

The vette intake is a 6263751 from a '72 350ci. Might put it up on my local classifieds if its worth anything.

Now when I swap intakes, do you guys have any tips for re-installing the dist without finding TDC again? Is there a better way to do it than eyeballing it?

Turn motor over to #1 TDC on the balancer and remove cap and mark Distributer where rotor is pointing. Drop it back in the same spot, check timing with light.
