sbc main caps

how can i identify main cap locations if they are not numbered

If they have gotten mixed up, it is possible to locate them properly. You can eliminate #5 of course........

Look at the cap's and block's mating surface for each cap. Look carefully for any scratches, lines, dents, or any other marks that will differentiate that area from another. Usually you will find corresponding marks that mirror each other on the cap and block interface. Each cap and corresponding block mating area will have unique marks.

the only reliable way, is to do as machine tom said and then check them with a dial bore or inside micrometer.
