SBC oil pan/ gasket differences
When comparing one-piece rear SBCs, are vortec pans/gaskets interchangeable with non vortec? Can I use an 87-96 pan/gasket on a 96-later vortec engine?
Some gaskets list as fitting 87 and later one-piece engines, while others only list 87-96. Same with pans. Straight dope anyone? |

There is a difference on some year models....what side the dip stick is on.

The Vortec SB V8 pans are interchangeable with the earlier 1pc seal engines. The gasket is made a little different for the Vortec due to the plastic timing cover. Simply get a pan gasket for whichever cover you are using.

Ok, great. I'm winning a 1-piece cast aluminum marine oil pan on ebay for $20 brand new. That will look great polished up on my boat.
Off to buy gaskets for a 96-later 1-piece. |

Fast 68, Let's remember the 55 blocks did not have oil filters cast into the block and the pan was different; therefore the gaskets are different. But, the "correct" amount of gaskets do come in the set to cover those blocks usually. Just a "technicality". BUTCH.
